Cher Addresses Age Gap with BF Alexander ‘A.E.’ Edwards (Exclusive)
Cher’s songs are timeless, but she is simply ageless!
“Extra” recently spoke with Cher on her secret to living a youthful life at 77, plus her romance with 37-year-old music producer Alexander “A.E.” Edwards.
She gushed, “I hate to talk about how happy I am, but no, we have a great time together. We can talk music. We can talk about everything. He’s a got a great sense of humor, he’s got the cutest son in the world, ever… We just get each other.”
Cher noted that Alexander is “more obviously shy” than she is, describing him as “reserved.”
Cher admits that their age difference does come into play sometimes. She explained, “Sometimes I’m talking to him and he has no idea who I’m talking about… The other day, I said, ‘Do you know who, I don’t know, Clark Gable, [is]?’ Somebody said, ‘Yes, of course,’ but most of my references… He’ll look at me and go, ‘I wasn’t born yet.’”
Alexander does know who Tina Turner is, though!
Cher opened up about her “special relationship” with the music icon. She said, “Both of us were younger when we were married and both of our husbands were pretty much the boss…”
She went on, “The first time she did my show, she was with Ike and it was a completely different Tina… Sonny wasn’t the same way, but he was very much the boss… And she wanted to know how did I leave and I said, ‘I just walked out.’”
Cher has always been a strong woman and isn’t afraid to speak her mind, not even when it comes to politics.
Cher weighed in on the Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel, saying, “In the Middle East, seems like everything is always insane, boiling over… There is so much to be done.”
Cher also shared her fears about Donald Trump running for president again, saying, “I know that if he gets into office, we will have a hard time keeping our constitution and our democracy.”
Cher is currently promoting her new holiday album, simply entitled “Christmas.”
While Cher has declined to do a Christmas album in the past, she finally said yes! She commented, “I never wanted to do one... This must be the right time, because I was asked forever, starting from Sonny and Cher days. I don't know... just never felt right to me."
It took some convincing from Alexander, who worked on the album with her.
She dished, “It’s a very strange Christmas album. All the tracks are their own little islands. Nothing seems to go together, but when you hear it, it works.”
Cher picked a few of her favorites to join her, including Cyndi Lauper, Darlene Love, Michael Bublé and Stevie Wonder.
She recalled being nervous to ask Stevie to collaborate. "At the end of the conversation, he said, 'Do you want me to play harmonica?' I went, 'Oh, yes! I do, I do, I do!' then ran around in my room and jumped on my bed and screamed, 'Stevie Wonder is going to be on my album!'"
Her duet with Darlene Love on "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" was a full-circle moment.
"I did background on it when I was 17, and I didn't want to do it without her," Cher said.
