Amy Schumer Drops Shocking Bombshells in New Book — What We Learn About Her
Earlier this morning, comedian Amy Schumer made an appearance on “Good Morning America” to promote her new book “The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo.”
She told Robin Roberts of the autobiographical book, "I've been keeping journals from age 13 to 23 and so it was really kind of crazy to go back and read them. It was a little painful because it's embarrassing to read your thoughts as a teenager, but it was a total labor of love. I've been working on it for almost five years and I'm really proud of it. I can't believe it's out." Watch!
In the book, Schumer made some surprising revelations about her past, including her mother having an affair with her best friend's father when Amy was a teenager. She wrote in the book, "One day after school I came home and saw my mother slumped on the couch. She'd clearly been crying hard. I am leaving your father. Lou and I have fallen in love with each other.”
Aside from her mom, Amy wrote about the struggles that her dad faced after his multiple sclerosis diagnosis, including incontinence. She said, "The saddest revelation I've had in my life is that my parents are people. Sad, human people."
The 35-year-old also opened up on losing her virginity to a boyfriend who had nonconsensual sex with her while she was half asleep. The next day, he apologized for his actions and she comforted him through his guilt. She shared, "I was seventeen years old and wanted my boyfriend to like me.”
Speaking of sex, Amy revealed how many people she has slept with over her lifetime. She said, "To date, I've slept with twenty-eight people. I can't remember all of their names, but I remember the nicknames I gave them (Third Ball, Pit Bull Guy, Cousin Steve—JKJKJKJK)."
In her early 20s, she was in a abusive relationship with a man, who would shove her to the ground during physical altercations. Not only that, he also belittled her with his constant criticism of her looks. She recalled one episode where "he grabbed a huge butcher knife from a drawer. And that's when I was sure he was going to kill me.”
Though she's been in painful relationships, she has been able to find love with Ben Hanisch on a dating app. After she was introduced to the app by “Saturday Night Live” actress Vanessa Bayer, she matched with Ben. She said, "We sent each other very simple hellos and short, funny messages.”
Amy is also spreading the word about her book in this month's Vanity Fair.
