Winona Ryder Speaks Out on Her Relationship with Johnny Depp
Actress Winona Ryder recently commented on her four-year relationship with her ex, Johnny Depp, who has been accused of domestic violence by estranged wife Amber Heard.
Ryder and Depp started dating in 1989 and quickly got engaged the following year. They eventually broke up after a three-year engagement. The 44-year-old defended Depp, telling Time magazine, "I mean, he was never, never that way towards me. Never abusive at all towards me. I only know him as a really good, loving, caring guy who is very, very protective of the people that he loves. It's hard because I feel like — that's my experience. And it's been a very long time.”
Though she wasn't implying that Amber was lying, Winona reiterated, "I'm just saying, it's difficult and upsetting for me to wrap my head around it. I just never heard anything like that about him. But, again, I feel like even saying that, I'm going to get death threats or something. I'm not on social media, so maybe I will be spared.”
Johnny's daughter Lily-Rose with ex, Vanessa Paradis, also came to his defense after Amber requested a restraining order against Johnny in May. Lily-Rose wrote on Instagram, "My dad is the sweetest most loving person I know,” she wrote. “He's been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same.”
