Yūko Takeuchi, the Japanese star of such hits as HBO Asia's "Miss Sherlock," was found dead early Sunday at her Tokyo residence. Her death, at 40, is being investigated, but is thought to be a suicide.
THR reports that Takeuchi was found dead by her actor husband, Taiki Nakabayashi, in the bedroom she shared with him.
Takeuchi was awarded with the Japanese Academy Film Prize for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role three years in a row (2004-2007). Along with "Miss Sherlock" (2018), she appeared in the horror classic "Ringu," the 1998 horror movie about a cursed videotape that kills all who view it. "Ringu" was successfully remade in the U.S. in 2002 as "The Ring," starring Naomi Watts.
Takeuchi is survived by her husband and two children, one of whom she gave birth to in January of this year.
