Engaged? Rooney Mara Spotted with Giant Sparkler
It looks like Rooney Mara, 34, and Joaquin Phoenix, 44, have taken the next big step in their relationship!
Last week, Mara was seen wearing a ring on that finger while carrying a “Go Vegan” bag full of groceries in Los Angeles.
A day after the sighting, she attended a karate class with Joaquin.
Rooney and Joaquin have been romantically linked since working together on the film “Mary Magdalene” in 2016. They sparked rumors when they were spotted spending time off set, hanging out on their hotel balcony in Italy.
At the time, a source told Page Six that they had “found love” while shooting.

View StoryIn the movie, she plays Mary Magdalene while Joaquin plays Jesus. In a 2017 interview with T Magazine, Phoenix pointed out that Mara affected his decision to take the role, saying, “I was looking for something meaningful. I was looking for an experience. I was friends with Rooney.”
He also revealed that they were living together in the Hollywood Hills while discussing his daily routine, which consists of answering emails, meditating, taking a karate class, and reading scripts.
That same year, the two made their public debut at the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival, where they were photographed holding hands. An insider told People magazine, “They were talking to one another nonstop. Small talk between them. Then they went for their car and he's holding her hand like it was unconscious. Like it fits. They seem a totally natural and easy couple.”
While a source claimed Rooney and Phoenix “are so in love,” they emphasized that the couple aren't planning to get married. The pal explained to Us Weekly, “They're never going to get married because they think marriage is too mainstream. Joaquin transforms all his girlfriends into being holistic, vegan, spiritual, and into saving the world.”
Rooney and Joaquin met on the set of their 2013 film “Her.” At the time, she was dating director Charlie McDowell, who has since been linked to “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke.
Amid the engagement rumors, Rooney's sister Kate welcomed her first child with husband Jamie Bell. On Monday, Kate shared a glimpse of their bundle of joy on Instagram. She wrote, “We had a baby a couple weeks ago... Here are her feet 💕.”

Last year, Kate opened up about her close relationship with Rooney, telling Us Weekly, “[Rooney and I] live in L.A. and the rest of our family is in New York, so we try to see each other as much as possible. We talk about everything personal that you would talk [about] with your close friends, your siblings.”
