On Tuesday morning, news broke that “Glee” actor Mark Salling was found dead near a riverbed in Sunland, California.
Police found Salling's body by accident, TMZ reports. They were in the area for an unrelated matter when they saw Salling's car. After running the plates, they determined that it was the 35-year-old actor's car and decided to search the area, where they found Salling hanging from a tree. Authorities did not find a suicide note.
Radar Online reports drug paraphernalia was found near his body. There is no evidence that he took drugs before the hanging.
Salling's family had filed a missing person report in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.
One of his former friends opened up on his state of mind as he was awaiting sentencing for his child porn case. They told Us Weekly, “He was in a dark place. He was very lonely. He was going to prison soon. Whoever was in his life pretty much cut him off… There were certain people he would talk to here and there, but he lost all his true friendships.”
Another pal added, “Mark knew he would have nothing to come back to after he went to prison. His acting career was beyond over.”
After hearing of his sudden death, Salling's former co-star Jane Lynch told TMZ, “It's sad and very tragic.”
According to TMZ, Salling had made "several suicide attempts." TMZ broke the story that he had cut his wrists August 22 before reaching a plea agreement in October. On December 17, he officially pled guilty to possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor.
Salling's body is currently at the coroner's office.
