'This Is Us' Premiere Reveals How Jack Dies
Fans of “This Is Us” finally know how Jack Pearson dies… well, sort of.
Spoilers Ahead
The Season 2 premiere ended with a heart-wrenching scene of the family mourning Jack's death, as viewers were led to believe the patriarch died in a house fire.
The revelation happens after a tense scene between Jack and wife Rebecca, as he reveals he has a drinking problem.
The show then seems to flash forward to a few months later. Rebecca is seen driving with a bag of Jack's personal belongings, including a watch and ring.
She then pulls up to the family home and lets out a wail as she looks up at the burned house.
‘This Is Us’: Milo Ventimiglia on Jack’s Emotional Death Scene and More
View StoryIn another scene, a teenage Kate is sobbing as she holds a dog and Randall is in tears, at what appears to be Miguel's home. Kate tells Randall she needs to find Kevin to tell him the news. The show then flashes to Kevin kissing a girl, and wearing a cast.
While it seems Jack died in a house fire, there are still unanswered questions.
Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Jack, told "Extra's" Renee Bargh at the Season 2 premiere Tuesday night, "We made it... I didn't spill the family secrets." Watch!
He went on to explain that the writers kept the cause of death a secret by omitting parts from the script. "It was secrecy... Omitting scenes from the script, it added to the value that we all needed to keep a secret."
Milo added that he hopes Jack and Rebecca were in a good place in their relationship when Jack died. "Hopefully they've come to some kind of reparation," he said.
Chrissy Metz, who plays Kate, hinted that her character may have some guilt over her dad's death. "'It's Kate fault. It's Kate's fault.' I think as a family anybody would feel some sense of guilt in some capacity about how their father passed away."
Be sure to watch the next episode of "This Is Us" Tuesday at 9 p.m. on NBC.
