Fitness Tycoon Richard Simmons Hospitalized for 'Bizarre Conduct'
UPDATE: Simmons was released from the hospital on Saturday. He said in a statement to ABC, "Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and concern after hearing I was in the hospital. I was dehydrated and needed some fluids and now I am feeling great! Summer is here - drink plenty of liquids. Big hugs and kisses for caring."
TMZ reports that Richard Simmons was hospitalized Friday night after exhibiting "unusually bizarre conduct" — and no one knows for sure if he is back home yet.
Simmons, who has been infamously reclusive for the past three years, was said to have alarmed onlookers in his home around midnight. With his consent, he was taken to Cedars-Sinai Hospital for evaluation.
Recently, former friends spoke despairingly of their efforts to see Simmons, alleging that he was under the control of a staffer. The article prompted a statement from Simmons' rep, Tom Estey, which read in part, "Richard, after 40 years of being in the spotlight, is now simply taking a break from the public eye and working behind the scenes to continue to help those millions of people worldwide in need of his assistance and on several projects to be announced soon."
