Derek Jeter Offers Condolences to Victoria Soto’s Family
Yankees star Derek Jeter made a phone call to Victoria Soto's family on Wednesday, reaching out to offer his condolences.
Victoria has emerged a hero in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting for trying to save her students when the gunman stormed her classroom.
“Vicki loved the Yankees — that was part of her eulogy,” her cousin James Wiltsie told the New York Daily News. “No one in the family reached out, so (Jeter) must have heard about it and ... reached out.”
He continued, “It was a surprise and unexpected. Donna (Victoria's mother) was ecstatic over it and very happy. She spoke to him for quite some time.”
Soto's sister Carlee, tweeted her excitement, writing, “Derek Jeter just called my mom!!!!! Thanks Vicki, she needs it thank you @yankees this meant a lot to my mother and all of us.”
