Taylor Swift’s New Album ‘Reputation’ Decoded – Who Are Her Songs About?
Singer Taylor Swift dropped her new album “Reputation” last night, and she has many listeners attempting to decode her songs!
The album appears to feature songs about her exes, including Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston, as well as about her feud with Kanye West. Another special person that she could be singing about — her current boyfriend Joe Alwyn!
In “Getaway Car,” Taylor appears to sing about a love triangle that ends with Swift and a guy leaving together after a public event. Many speculate it is about Tom Hiddleston and ex Calvin Harris. Some of the lyrics include “The ties were black, the lies were white / In shades of gray in candlelight / I wanted to leave him / I needed a reason.” With the three of us, honey, it's a sideshow / And a circus ain't a love story.”
Taylor was spotted dancing with Hiddleston at the Met Gala last year, just a month before she called it quits with Calvin Harris.
Many speculate “I Did Something Bad” is about her whirlwind relationship with Tom, who she dated for three months. They were spotted all over the world together. She sings, “I never trust a playboy, but they love me / So I fly 'em around the world / And I let them think they saved me.”
“Dress” has some fans thinking that Swift met her current beau at the Met Gala. At the event, she had bleached blonde hair, while he rocked a buzzcut. She sings, “Flashback when you met me / Your buzzcut and my hair bleached.”
Taylor Swift Decoded! The Best Theories About Her ‘Ready for It?’ Music Video
View StoryJoe appears to be the subject of her songs “Dancing with Our Hands Tied,” “Gorgeous,” “…Ready for It?” and “Delicate.” Taylor and Joe kept their romance quiet for months before the news broke. In “Dancing with Our Hands Tied,” she mentions loving someone “in secret,” adding, “I loved you in spite of / Deep fears that the world would divide us… I'm a mess, but I'm the mess that you wanted.”
In “Gorgeous,” Taylor gushes about blue-eyed man, “You're so gorgeous / I can't say anything to your face / 'Cause look at your face / And I'm so furious / At you for making me feel this way / But what can I say / You're gorgeous.”
“This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things” is most likely about Kanye West, who wrote about her in “Famous.” Kanye's wife Kim Kardashian eventually shared a telephone conversation between Taylor and Kanye discussing “Famous.” She sings, “There I was giving you a second chance / If only you weren't so shady / But you stabbed me in the back while shaking my hand / And therein lies the issue / Friends don't try to trick you / Get you on the phone and mind-twist you.”
