Rob Lowe Jokes About Wife Teaching Gwyneth Paltrow the ‘Wiles of Lovemaking’
Rob Lowe is keeping busy during quarantine, and chatting with “Extra's” Cheslie Kryst about his podcast “Literally! With Rob Lowe.”
The podcast recently made headlines when guest Gwyneth Paltrow revealed Rob's wife Sheryl Berkoff had given her some NSFW sex advice years ago on the set of a movie.
Lowe told Cheslie it was news to him. “Gwyneth goes, 'Well, she taught me how to kiss — wink, wink,'" he said, kissing being a euphemism for quite a bit more than kissing! Rob's response? "Wow, I never knew that."
He added, smiling, “I did not know my wife was part of Gwyneth Paltrow's… indoctrination into the wiles of lovemaking… I didn't know that back in the mid-'80s my wife was dispensing that kind of wonderful knowledge.”
Speaking of the 1980s, Lowe also opened up about acting in his first movie, “The Outsiders,” for director Francis Ford Coppola.
Rob told the story about how he and co-star Tom Cruise ended up staying in a family's basement in Tulsa during filming, as a way to help get into character.
“Coppola wanted to toughen us up as Hollywood actors,” Rob said. “He picked a bunch of families that were greasers in the '50s… We were to spend the night with them, have dinner with them, pick their brain, just be in their family… Tom and I ended up with a wonderful family. We didn't know them, like, 'Hi, how are you?' They're like, 'This is the basement, here's your cot. Let's have dinner and talk.'”
He went on, “Only Coppola can come up with that kinda acting… exercise. It was my first movie and I thought that's the way all movies were made. It's pretty extraordinary.”
Rob also opened up about life in quarantine with his family, saying, “Everybody's good were really lucky, I have a ton of empathy for people who have been struggling. I know people who have been. My boys are back in the house, which as a dad is fantastic… We're spending time playing games, at night we're watching movies, we're taking hikes — it's been great quality time. I'm trying to make the best of it.”
Like the rest of us, he joked that his eating habits have gone downhill during the pandemic. “I've been losing the ice cream battle at night in COVID. Ice cream is undefeated in my house… Everybody I know has the COVID 5, 10, 15 [lbs.] going on,” he said, adding, “I've gotta get back at it. I've called my Atkins people. I was like, 'Listen, get me more of those shakes, those bars, because I've got to stop with the ice cream.'”
He later added, “My sweet tooth is really something else. I've cut down on caffeine and all the bad, and the only thing that kills it dead is the Atkins chocolate shake. I've been living that lifestyle for a long time, pre-my working relationship with them, which is a high-protein, low-carb eating style. It just gives me energy, it helps my sleep, it is great for weight. I've never had to be on a diet, per se. I feel good about carrying that message to people because I'm living it as well in my own life.”
Lowe said he is also doing a lot of cooking with his kids. “There is an [Atkins] mobile app that I've been using because we are all doing our own cooking. I've got my boys cooking, which is awesome… and we just go on the app and it is great for meal planning.”
