Olivia Munn Speaks Out About 'Abuse of Power' in Hollywood
“Extra's” Tanika Ray was with Olivia Munn at The Hollywood Reporter's 2017 Women in Entertainment Breakfast in Los Angeles.
The event was dedicated to honoring and empowering women in Hollywood, and a big topic of conversation was the sexual harassment that has come to light recently in the industry.
Munn had previously spoken out against director Brett Ratner, who denied the allegations. Olivia told Tanika it isn't just about him. “This isn't just a woman issue; obviously, a lot of men have been affected by this as well. This is an abuse of power issue.”
She added, “The reality is, when people look at it as a man/woman issue they are not realizing that it's a lot of these douchebag guys who are occupying the power seats, so a lot of the good guys, the really good guys, can't make it into a power position. We've got to eradicate all those crappy guys and leave room for all the good men and women to fill those spots.”
The 37-year-old actress, who called out Ratner along with others in a powerful L.A. Times article, said she has never been quiet about the issue. “I've called out big producers, I've turned down work. I have done it privately before our voices mattered like this. It's something I've always done and it's important that people talk about it.”
Munn is looking forward, saying, “The future looks really bright for everyone, for the good guys and the good girls.”
Ratner's attorney Martin Singer previously told the L.A. Times that his client “vehemently disputes” Munn's claims.
Singer also submitted a 10-page letter to the Times, which stated, in part, “I have represented Mr. Ratner for two decades, and no woman has ever made a claim against him for sexual misconduct or sexual harassment. Furthermore, no woman has ever requested or received any financial settlement from my client.”
