Qandeel Baloch, the 'Kim Kardashian of Pakistan,' Allegedly Murdered in Honor Killing
Qandeel Baloch, the queen of Pakistani social media — often dubbed the "Kim Kardashian of Pakistan" — has been found strangled, People magazine reports.
According to multiple outlets, her body was found at home and both her family and police believe she was murdered in a so-called "honor killing" by her brother. Honor killings occur when a person, usually a man, kills a relative, usually a woman, whom he believes is bringing shame on the family.
Baloch's liberal attitudes about female empowerment reportedly threatened her brother, who was also said to be upset that her images were widely seen on social media. Baloch had recently sought government protection after receiving death threats.
The social-media sensation had planned to move out of Pakistan.
Police are still seeking her brother, who fled.
