Rosie O'Donnell Opens Up About Estranged Daughter Chelsea
Rosie O'Donnell opened up to “Extra” about her estranged daughter Chelsea at her Rosie's Theater Kids' 12th Annual Gala Celebration in NYC.
“We all will be missing Chelsea this evening,” she said. This year, she's not attending with us.”
Chelsea left home after reportedly reconnecting with her birth mother and now lives with her boyfriend's family in New Jersey, “I'm glad we know where she is… She knows there's a place for her should she ever want to come back regardless of what she says or does to anyone including me.”
Revealing how things are at home with her other children and since filing for divorce from wife Michelle Rounds, “It's not a new situation in our home, it's new that the public knows about it… [Chelsea] was home for the last year but was gone for six years before that and that was for her own protection and everyone else's.”
O'Donnell, who suffered a heart attack in 2012, also noted, “Stress has a lot to do with your health and so you have to watch it… and it's hard for a mother, when a kid turns 18, there's not a lot you can do if they want to leave the nest, they leave.”
The comedian also talked about the work she's doing with Rosie's Theaters Kids, saying, “I did grow up in a difficult situation without all the stuff that children need and deserve to feel safe and loved, so to get to provide that for these many kids - and it's thousands and thousands of kids at this point - is really overwhelming.”
