Alex Trebek’s New Update on His Cancer Treatment and His Life in Quarantine
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek is sharing a health update.
In a video released on Thursday, Trebek said, “I'm doing well. I've been continuing my treatment and it's been paying off, though it does fatigue me a great deal. My numbers are good. I'm feeling great."
Over the past year, Trebek has kept many updated on his health after being diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer.
Trebek, who is turning 80 next week, has been keeping busy during lockdown. Along with writing a book called “The Answer Is... Reflections on My Life," he's been recording new show openings for “Jeopardy!”
He shared, “For the first time ever, we're going to open the 'Jeopardy!' vault and take a look at some of our 'Jeopardy!' episodes, including the very first show I ever hosted, mustache and all.”
Joking about growing facial hair during quarantine, Alex said, “Clearly I've been doing that while waiting for us to safely return to the studio, which I hope will be very, very soon.”
Alex wrapped up the video, saying, “Once again, I can't wait to return to the studio and start recording shows for the new season in September.”
In March, Trebek attempted to tape “Jeopardy!” without a show audience, but production was eventually suspended due to safety concerns.
Around that time, Trebek has reached a big milestone, since the one-year survival rate for stage 4 pancreatic cancer is only 18%.
He admitted, “I'd be lying if I said the journey was an easy one. There were some good days, and a lot of not good days. I joke with friends that the cancer won't kill me, the chemo treatments will. There were moments of great pain. Days when certain bodily functions no longer function and sudden massive attacks of great depression that made me wonder if it was really worth fighting on, but I brushed that aside quickly because that would have been a massive betrayal.”

He ended his message on a positive note, saying, “If we take it one day at a time with a positive attitude, anything is possible.”
