Police Seek 2 People for Questioning in Jussie Smollett Assault Case

There could be a break in the alleged attack against “Empire” star Jussie Smollett, which is being investigated as a possible hate crime.

Anthony Guglielmi, Chief Spokesperson of the Chicago Police Department, tweeted, “Chicago Police detectives have located a surveillance camera that shows potential persons of interest wanted for questioning in reference to the assault and battery of an 'Empire' actor. A community alert w/ photos is being constructed and will be disseminated shortly.”

ABC 7 Chicago reports the video shows two people walking in the vicinity of the attack, but not the actual assault. Officers are seeking those two individuals.

The police later released a community alert with the photo below, stating, "Detectives are seeking to identify and interview the two subjects depicted in the pictures... walking on New St. near Illinois, between 1:30 a.m. and 1:45 a.m. in order to determine whether they may have any involvement in the reported incident, or if they may have witnessed the incident."

TMZ reported Smollett, who is black, was attacked by two white men in ski masks early Tuesday morning in Chicago. The men allegedly pulled a noose around his neck and shouted homophobic and racial slurs while beating him, fracturing a rib.

The department also told the site that Jussie told them in an interview that the men were yelling “MAGA country.” MAGA stands for President Trump's slogan, “Make America Great Again.”
