Ticket Buyers Heart 'Deadpool': Ryan Reynolds Movie Set for $130M Opening
Variety reports that "Deadpool," starring so-called "Sexiest Dad Alive" Ryan Reynolds as the comic superhero, will rake in a record-breaking four-day total of $130 million for the long holiday weekend — double what had been expected.
"Deadpool" made $47.5 million on Friday alone (counting $12.7 million from Thursday-night previews).
The movie, whose superhero swears like a sailor, will likely bring last year's "Fifty Shades of Grey" to its knees in terms of Presidents' Weekend launches; in comparison, that film made $93 million.
Also new this weekend are the comedies "Zoolander 2" and "How to Be Single," both of which should take in somewhere between $15 - $20 million.
