Miranda Lambert Gets a CMA Win After Tough Year: 'I Needed a Bright Spot'
Hours after Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani confirmed they were dating, his ex Miranda Lambert was able to flash a smile while accepting the award for Female Vocalist of the Year at the CMAs last night.
Lambert, who rocked pink hair similar to Gwen's 1999 'do, told the star-studded audience, "Man, I really appreciate it. I needed a bright spot this year, so thank you. I love country music fans."
Earlier in the night, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood poked fun at Blake and Miranda's divorce in their monologue, joking, "It's cray-cray how many couples have broke up this year, from Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Halle Berry and what's his name. And of course we can't ignore the breakup that really rocked our world, the one that's on everyone's minds, two people who we all know and love: Splitsville."
Brad added, "And on a completely unrelated note, Howdy Blake. Have you heard the song that Blake did with Ashley Madison?" Carrie corrected him, saying, "No, no, that was Ashley Monroe."
Last month, during an appearance on "Late Night with Seth Meyers," Shelton anticipated that there would be a joke about him and Miranda at the CMAs. Back then, he said, "This year is going to be awkward at the CMAs, speaking of jokes. [County music] is such a family. Everybody there is friends, you know? There's gotta be a joke about me and Miranda."
