Post-Split Fergie Says ‘Life Takes You in Different Directions’
It has been an emotional year for Fergie since announcing her split with husband Josh Duhamel!
“Extra” spoke with the Grammy winner about her hosting gig on “The Four: Battle for Stardom,” her music, and moving on.
Fergie is in a good place now, she said. “It feels great! You never know what the universe is going to throw at you... I have learned that a lot these past couple of years — life takes you in different directions.”
The pop star put it all out there in her new music, with songs like “Life Goes On” from her new “Double Dutchess" album. She said the music has “very extreme differences," adding, "Silly songs that are just ridiculous... to completely serious soul-baring lyrics and feelings that I've had and just written in my journals, and was able to express as therapy, basically, with the music — I don't know how to do it any other way.”
On “The Four: Battle for Stardom,” Fergie knows how to be the hostess with the mostess alongside Diddy, DJ Khaled, Meghan Trainor, and music producer Charlie Walk. She shared, “I get to be the ringleader here. I'm kind of like the girl boss.”
She added, “I feel like I have a new party crew… they're so much fun... and you never know what you're going to get… and that's my kind of party.”
The show is a new kind of singing competition, where singers hold four spots, with new challengers arriving each week to try to knock them from the competition. Fergie said, “You start with the best. These four have to defend their seats every single show. We're starting with the top, and you have challengers every week that try to take their seat away from them, so it's very competitive… It's not really the comfort zone on this show. There's a lot of tough love.”
Tough love and even tougher judges! She emphasized that what they're looking for is, “That stare, that eye of the tiger... that something that makes you just want to watch that person and want to hear that person.”
“The Four: Battle for Stardom” premieres January 4 on FOX.
