“Extra” sat down with Jack in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio, where both brothers were born, revealing Nick and Bobbi Kristina became close through him when they moved to Atlanta. “I was 12 years old when I met Kris [Bobbi Kristina].” He continued, “We hung out a lot, then I found out she was friends with his ex-girlfriend. At that point in time, we all started hanging out together.”
Jack explained that when his mom and stepdad split up, Nick decided to stay in Atlanta and eventually moved in with Bobbi Kristina and Whitney. “Krissy actually asked Nick, because he was staying with one of our friends at that time and that friend got in trouble so Nick couldn't stay there anymore.” Jack continued, “Krissy knew that Nick didn't have anywhere to go, so she basically asked Whitney if he could come in, and she said yeah.”
The world saw his brother Nick unravel on “Dr. Phil,” admitting to drug and alcohol use before heading to rehab. Jack said both Nick and Krissy were using drugs and alcohol. He saw it for himself firsthand when he lived with them in Atlanta. Jack distanced himself because he wasn't happy with what was going on in the home. “I let them know I wasn't comfortable with it, I didn't like being around them like that.” Jack tried to intervene. “I let Nick know, slow down on that. You need to stop doing that.”
Jack also revealed that Nick and Krissy's drug use started at home with Whitney. “It was going on when Whitney was alive. I would be on the phone with Nick and I can hear Whitney asking for the stuff.” “
Extra's” AJ interrupted and asked Jack to clarify, “She would ask for what?” Jack repeated, “Same stuff they were doing, it's the same situation, this wasn't something that just came about when Whitney died, this has been around since before.” AJ asked Jack, “So Whitney was allowing drug use in the house?” Jack responded, “Yeah, yeah, definitely.” AJ continued, “Participating?” Jack answered, “Mmm hmm. That I can tell you, yep.”
Jack had an insider's look at what may have led to Bobbi Kristina being found unconscious in a bathtub, ultimately leaving her with irreversible brain damage. “I guess they went to a club the night before and that's where it all stemmed… they got in an argument from there and then it carried on to the house and they just went in separate parts of the room, and that's as far as I know what went on there.” Jack continued, “I mean, I knew how depressed Kris was, I knew drug use. I mean, all that mixed together with arguments is never, never good.”
Jack said he believed Krissy was trying to commit suicide. “I just feel like she… she just was fed up with everything that's going on in her life.”
While there have been allegations of abuse between Nick and Bobbi Kristina, Jack said his brother would never lay a hand on her. AJ asked, “Now, I know he's your brother, but was he ever physical with Krissy?” Jack answered, “That I can tell you, no.”
Nick is now clean and sober, keeping his brother updated on his progress in rehab through letters. “He's been off of drugs for almost seven weeks. He's actually surprised that he stayed, to be honest with you. He's like, 'I'm proud of myself for staying, I didn't think that I'd be able to do it.' He's not the same person he was when he went in.”
Jack told “Extra” what his brother Nick would want the world to know. “He would want people to know he cares for Krissy, he loves her just as much as he did before, and he's clean now, he's doing a lot better.”
