Taylor Swift Testifies in DJ Groping Case
On Thursday, singer Taylor Swift took the stand in Colorado during her groping trial involving former DJ David Mueller.
Swift was questioned by Mueller's attorney, Gabriel McFarland, who asked her about their meet-and-greet encounter in 2013. In her lawsuit against Mueller, she accused him of grabbing her butt as they posed for a photo together. She said in a Denver court, “It was a definite grab. A very long grab.” When McFarland asked how long, Swift replied, "I don't think it would be wise to estimate time in court, but I know it was long enough for me to be completely sure that it was intentional.”
Taylor testified, "He stayed latched on to my bare ass cheek... I felt him grab on to my ass cheek underneath my skirt. The first couple of milliseconds I thought it must be a mistake, so I moved to the side very quickly so that his side would be removed from my ass cheek, but it didn't let go.”
Taylor made clear that Mueller put his hands underneath her clothing, saying, "He was busy grabbing my ass underneath my skirt, so he didn't grab it outside of my skirt."
When McFarland asked if she attempted to get away after the alleged grab, Taylor responded, "It was a very shocking thing that has never happened to me before. This was not something I had ever dealt with. I got as far away from him as I possibly could.”
After posing for a pic, Taylor pointed out that “a light switched off in my personality.” She elaborated, “I just said in a monotone voice, 'Thank you for coming,' and then they were gone."
Taylor also revealed that she told her assistant after the alleged incident took place, saying, “I said, 'That dude just grabbed my ass.'”
Yesterday, Taylor's mom Andrea took the stand, telling the court that the 27-year-old was "really shaken, she was humiliated, she was horribly embarrassed because he grabbed her bare ass.”
Of her reaction to the photo, Andrea said, "I know those eyes better than anybody. She was pulling away. She has that smile frozen on her face, but there's something going on in her eyes. I just looked at it and I was sickened.”
“Upset to the point of feeling like I wanted to vomit and cry at the same time,” she emphasized.
As for why they didn't involve the police immediately after what allegedly happened, Andrea explained, “I did not want every interview from now on to have to make her include what happened to her. I did not want her to have to live through the endless memes and GIFs that tabloid media and Internet trolls would come up with. We absolutely wanted to keep this private, but we did not want him to get away with it. He sexually assaulted her.”
Mueller responded to the allegations, telling the court, "It's a humiliating experience to be accused of something that despicable.” He argued that he didn't touch her inappropriately and may have made contact with her ribs. When testifying, Taylor retorted, "He did not touch my rib. He did not touch my arm. He did not touch my hand. He grabbed my bare ass.”
Taylor was questioned by McFarland for an hour, affirming, "I am not going to allow you or your client in any way to make me feel like this was my fault, because it isn't. I am being blamed for the unfortunate events of his life that are a product of his decisions, not mine."
Days after the alleged incident, Mueller was fired from his on-air gig at KYGO radio station. Two years later, he sued her for defamation and she countersued.
