Jennifer Lawrence & Robert De Niro Tease Each Other, De Niro Slams Trump at GLAAD Awards
Jennifer Lawrence cracked up the crowd at the 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards as she presented Robert De Niro with the Excellence in Media Award by stating, "Robert De Niro... is not gay. So I don't know why we're here."
She went on to explain that De Niro has said she is "like a daughter" to him, which she said "transpires at our once-a-week drinks at the Greenwich Hotel where I ask him advice on absolutely everything, and also when he gets drunk and pinches my cheek and says, 'You remind me of my little Helen'... who's 4."
She made fun of her inability to keep up with the teleprompter, asking the audience not to applaud, then going off-script to say that the gay-rights organization and De Niro have lots in common, including, "They're both gay. I was told by five different people to cut that and I was like, 'Hell, no!'"

On a less comedic note, De Niro's dedication to acceptance in society was celebrated, and his history with the LGBT community — his late father was a gay painter who struggled with his identity — was underscored.
She wrapped things up by saying, "Bob, you are wise, you are loving, and the world is truly better because of you."
De Niro continued the hilarity by taking the stage and saying to Jennifer, "If I were a lesbian, I'd be all over you. Being a father figure has its limitations."
He called Jennifer a "great actress" and "respectful, loving friend," but he was less glowing in a thinly veiled reference to presidential candidate Donald Trump.
"You think you've got it bad, LBGT community? I don't think you know what it's like to be really discriminated against," De Niro said. "I recently turned on the television news and saw this odd guy with little hands and he was, like, raving. Turns out the ones being discriminated against are straight, middle-aged white men." He went on to joke about losing parts to "diversity" actors like John Boyega, Michael B. Jordan, Nathan Lane, and Jennifer Lawrence.
Continuing on his humorous tirade about being discriminated against, he said, "I can't remember the last time I got a Teen Choice Award... It's not easy being a straight white man."
De Niro did eventually get serious, proudly pointing out that the arts are non-judgmental, hailing the Supreme Court's landmark gay-marriage decision, and saying of GLAAD's award to him, "Thank you for this honor. I'm proud to stand with you. I'm glad."
