Explosive Details of Evangelist Jerry Falwell Jr. & Wife’s Sex Scandal, Plus: What Tom Arnold Knows
Evangelical leader Jerry Falwell Jr., his wife Becki, and a young man they are accused of engaging in sexual trysts with are at the center of a salacious scandal that erupted as the Republican National Convention opened.
It is a sordid story, with allegations of sex, lies, and... audio tape.
Jerry is accused of watching Becki have sex repeatedly during her years-long affair with a man they went into business with when they partnered with him in a gay-friendly hostel in Miami.
That former pool boy, Giancarlo Granda told Reuters, “Becki and I developed an intimate relationship and Jerry enjoyed watching from the corner of the room.” He said this happened “multiple times per year” from 2012-2018. Granda was 20 when they first approached him.
Granda told Politico that the first time Becki propositioned him, she told him, "But one thing... My husband likes to watch." He went on to say that Falwell was in just a Speedo the first time he joined them to watched Granda have sex with his wife.
Granda also gave Reuters a tape that he claims is a 2018 phone conversation between himself and Becki, with Jerry on the line, too. On the recording, Becki says, “He's, like, telling me every time he hooks up with people. Like I don't have feelings or something.” Jerry insists, “You're going to make her jealous,” and Giancarlo replies, “I'm not trying to do that.”
Jerry, who just resigned as president of Liberty University, confirmed his wife had an affair with Granda, but denies any involvement.
He said in a statement to The Washington Examiner, “Becki had an inappropriate personal relationship with this person, something in which I was not involved — it was nonetheless very upsetting to learn about.”
The Falwells insist they are the victims of an extortion plot that Jerry likened to the movie “Fatal Attraction.” Giancarlo denied that claim.
Questions about the couple and Granda aren't new.
Last year, comedian Tom Arnold went public with a claim from President Trump's former fixer and attorney Michael Cohen. “Extra's” Billy Bush spoke with Tom about the scandal today.
Arnold explained that Cohen had been “a fixer for Jerry Falwell with this long-rumored pool boy situation,” quoting Cohen as saying, "Yeah, I helped him out with a situation with his pool boy and his wife... Oh, I still have one picture."
Tom added that the photo shows “Giancarlo and [Becki], and then in the reflection in the mirror is Jerry naked taking the photo... You see it off the reflection.”
Jerry has denied involvement of any kind, and a source had previously told The New York Times that Cohen was not a Falwell fixer.
The allegations come four years after Jerry Falwell Jr. took a starring role addressing the RNC. Today, the Falwells' futures are in limbo as questions refuse to go away about their past.
