‘American Idol’ Singer Michael Johns’ Cause of Death Revealed
Singer Michael Johns, a finalist on “American Idol” Season 7, died from an enlarged heart, says the coroner's report.
The 35-year-old singer died suddenly August 1 at a friend's home in Anaheim, CA, with various reports at the time pointing to a blood clot in the singer's injured ankle as a possible cause.
According to the Orange County Coroner's report, obtained by TMZ, Johns died of natural causes, the result of a disease called dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition that inhibits the flow of blood to the body. The disease caused his heart to enlarge.
The report also cites Johns suffered from a "fatty liver," which could indicate excessive drinking, but not in all cases.
While TMZ sources said Johns may have been drinking prior to his death, Hollywood Life insiders disputed the claims at the time, saying “drinking wasn't an issue” for the singer.
