Harvey Weinstein Taken to Hospital — Not Jail — Due to Health Issue
Harvey Weinstein was ordered to jail today to await sentencing, but he ended up in the hospital instead, reports Variety.
Weinstein was found guilty of criminal sexual assault in the first degree and rape in the third degree on Monday morning, and is facing up to 29 years in prison.
He was convicted on two of the five charges against him, but was found not guilty on two counts of predatory sexual assault and of rape in the first degree.
Before he could check in to the jail on Rikers Island, where he was to stay until his March 11 sentencing, Weinstein complained of chest pains. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan instead.
His attorney Donna Rotunno told the judge that he should remain free because of an unsuccessful back surgery and shots he required for his eyesight.
She later told Fox News that he was experiencing heart palpitations, but did not reveal he was hospitalized.
