Kate McKinnon Plays Jeff Sessions as Forrest Gump with 'Help' from Octavia Spencer
"SNL's" cold open featured Kate McKinnon in male drag as Attorney General Jeff Sessions, with a Forrest Gump twist!
Playing Sessions, who is mired in controversy over his failure to acknowledge meetings with top Russian officials during his confirmation hearings, McKinnon spoke to a series of disinterested citizens at a bus stop, bragging about access to President Trump and front-page news stories — even negative ones.
The skit also played up accusations that Sessions is racist by ending with a visit from "The Help's" Minny, host Octavia Spencer reprising her Oscar-winning role.
Watch Minny offer Sessions a piece of her... mind:
In her opening monologue, Spencer mocked the trend of confusing her movie "Hidden Figures" with the very different "Fences" and this year's Oscar winner, "Moonlight," just because all three feature predominantly black casts.
Spencer joked that people come up to her saying, "I just loved 'Hidden Fences'!" and claimed, "That's why I produced 'Hidden Fence Light' — it's the story of three black women who send an introspective gay boy to build a fence on the moon."
