'Police Academy' Actress Marion Ramsey Dead at 73

“Police Academy” star Marion Ramsey has died, Deadline reports. She was 73.
Her team confirmed the news, telling the site that she died at her home in L.A. on Thursday.
Ramsey's cause of death is unknown, but she had reportedly fallen “ill in recent days.”

Ramsey famously played the usually whisper-voiced Officer Laverne Hooks in all six “Police Academy” movies (1984-1989). Hooks was known for her occasional outbursts, including her memorable, "Don't move, dirtbag!"
Her "Police Academy" co-star Leslie Easterbrook remembered Ramsey on Facebook, Thursday, writing, "Today we lost a true angel. Marion Ramsey will forever be in our hearts. We are sending all of our love and sincere condolences to her family and friends. Please keep everyone in your prayers and thoughts during this difficult time and let’s celebrate Marion’s wonderful life. (May 10th, 1947 - January 7th, 2021)."
Ramsey's "Police Academy" following came after her work in the hit Broadway productions of “Hello, Dolly!” with Pearl Bailey (1968) and “Eubie!” (1978), and she appeared in the ill-fated "Miss Moffat," a musical version of "The Corn Is Green" starring Bette Davis that closed out of town in 1974.
Ramsey appeared on many TV shows and other films, and was also a successful voice actress, with roles on the animated series “The Addams Family” (1992-1993), “Robot Chicken” (2006), and others.
