Mama June Is Suing Mad at TLC Over Duggar Scandal: ‘They Need to Be Axed’
Reality TV star Mama June Shannon was with “Extra” this weekend in her home state of Georgia, where the head of the “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” family was reeling over what she called TLC's “double standard,” saying that they treated her more harshly than the Duggar family in a child molestation scandal.
TLC cancelled “Honey Boo Boo” just hours after TMZ posted a pic of Mama June with convicted child molester Mark Anthony McDaniel Sr., while the network has only yanked repeats of “19 Kids and Counting,” but has not cancelled the family program following molestation revelations about son Josh Duggar.
Mama June defended herself to “Extra” about the photo, “I didn't even do anything, it was just speculation over like rumors, I never dated the guy, I never touched my kid, I think that's disgusting and our show was cancelled immediately, no they've got them on oh they're on a break right now, no it wasn't no break with us, it was like seven hours after the news broke, cancelled.”
Mama June called TLC's treatment unfair. “I'm not mad because they cancelled our show, that's not what I'm mad about, but I believe it's a double standard that if they're gonna cancel our show because of rumors and stuff, that if they don't cancel their show and he did a whole lot more horrendous stuff than I would've ever thought about with my children, that's just crazy.”
She was upset about her family's income being taken away, saying, “We showed what real life was, and they [Duggars] may be real too. They may be great people, 'cause we had the same bodyguards as they did and I heard some great things about them, but in the long run, I look at it this way; if you're gonna take a way one family's income 'cause of speculation and rumors, and I didn't even touch or molest anybody or have allegations against myself, and you're gonna blackball me and take away from my children's future, but you're not gonna take away from their family, come on now, get your priorities straight.”
Bottom line, Mama June wants to see TLC cancel “19 Kids and Counting.” “I feel like, to me they need to be axed just like I was, just like the 'Son of Guns' was from Discovery when he had the allegations of child molestation with stepdaughter, they need to be axed, not just, 'Oh, we're taking a break.' It was to me the most messed up situation, the most bs.”
Since “Extra's” interview, Mama June Shannon's attorney has reached out to TLC demanding “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” be put back on the air, or she'll sue the network, according to TMZ.
An attorney for Mama June told the website he issued the demand to the network this weekend, claiming the family's rights were violated when TLC cancelled the show.
The attorney's argument is that Josh Duggar's conduct was far worse, with fewer consequences than Mama June's. If TLC doesn't give Mama June the same treatment as the Duggars, then they will take TLC to court, where they believe they can easily score a $1 million jury verdict.
The attorney said if he doesn't hear back from TLC in the next week, he will file the lawsuit.
