‘Walking Dead’ Star Addresses Shocking Mid-Season Premiere
SPOILER ALERT: If you have not yet seen the latest episode of “The Walking Dead,” don't read any further!
As Season 5 of “The Walking Dead” returned to AMC on Sunday, viewers were shocked to learn fan favorite Tyreese died after being bit by a walker.
Actor Chad L. Coleman, who portrayed the kind-hearted Tyreese, joined “Extra's” Charissa Thompson at Universal Studios Hollywood prior to the mid-season premiere.
Coleman explained he had a little time to get used to his fate. “There was plenty of time, in one respect, but is there ever enough time to leave such a fantastic show.”
Coleman said filming his last episode was “exhausting… emotionally, physically, the whole shebang. I was so overwhelmed.” He continued, “I was operating on so many different levels because so many of the characters I love, admire, came back and were able to be in the scene with me so I was like a pinball machine inside.”
The cast continued their tradition of celebrating when a character is killed off. Coleman said, “A campfire deal at one of the producer's homes. It was exquisite… like the show itself, an homage to the man, that campfire gave it extra sentimentality.”
Chad did take a memento from “Walking Dead” set: his signature hammer. He laughed, “They gave me the plastic hammer. They were worried if I took a real one. They didn't know how I'd react to getting thrown off the show.”
The actor said he does not know who is next to go. “To be honest, I have no idea. You never know what these guys are going to do.”
As for his next move, Chad said, “It's called 'The Expanse' on the Syfy Channel. Thomas Jane is one of the leads, and it's based on the best-selling novels of Leviation Wakes. I get to play commander Fred Johnson.”
