Gordon Hunt, Father of Helen Hunt, Dead After Battle with Parkinson's Disease
Actress Helen Hunt shared that her father, famed director Gordon Hunt, passed away at his Sherman Oaks home on Saturday after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 87.
Gordon Hunt enjoyed an impressive six-decade career in Hollywood as a director, actor, producer and writer. He was best known as a director of now classic cartoons, including “The Smurfs,” “The Jetsons” and “Scooby-Doo.”
He also directed 31 episodes of his daughter's sitcom, “Mad About You,” for which Helen won four consecutive Emmys for her work playing Jamie Buchman.
Helen told The Hollywood Reporter about her father, "He was a master of reinvention, a journeyman artist. He knew and taught that the work doesn't always find you. You need to create and re-create the work every day.”
Of his longtime work in Hollywood, Helen said about his relationships, "If you asked 100 people who knew him, 100 of them would say he was the kindest man they ever knew.”
In addition to Helen, he is survived by his wife B.J. Ward, whom he married in 1995, and another daughter, Colleen Morrison Hunt, and three grandchildren.
