Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Emotional Night: Who Stepped in for Kurt Cobain and More
It was an emotional night at Barclay Center in Brooklyn on Thursday, as Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic were there to accept the award, while Kurt Cobain's mother Wendy O'Connor and widow Courtney Love were there to represent the late singer..
Several female singers, including Joan Jett, Lorde and Kim Song, were asked to step in and sing in Cobain's place.

R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe gave the official induction, “Nirvana captured lightning in a bottle,” he said, adding that they pushed “us forward towards our individual and collective potential.” He later said, “Kurt, I miss you.”
O'Connor fought back tears as she spoke about her son, “He would have been so proud. He'd say he wasn't, but he would be.”
Love added, “Tonight, he really would have appreciated,” and explained that Kurt's award would go to their daughter Frances Bean, who couldn't be there because she was ill.
Joan Jett joined the band for “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth stepped in for “Aneurysm,” Annie Clark for “Lithium and Lorde for “All Apologies.”
The other inductees this year include KISS, Linda Ronstadt, Yusef Islam (formerly Cat Stevens), Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates and the E Street Band.
