Glen Powell Talks Tom Cruise ‘Raising the Bar’ on ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ Plus: His New ‘Jurassic’ Cartoon
Glen Powell is ripped and ready to fly alongside Tom Cruise in the “Top Gun” sequel, “Maverick”!
“Extra's” Chelsie Kryst spoke to Glen to get the scoop on the action movie and about getting animated in the new eight-episode Netflix series “Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.”
Fans already caught a glimpse of Powell shirtless in a scene for “Maverick,” and he told Cheslie, “The amount of male anxiety around taking their shirt off... The gyms were packed day and night… It was a degree of insecurity you've never seen. Ever.”
He continued, “We shot it, and then that night, we all went out for milkshakes and tater tots and splurged. Everybody grabbed a beer. And then a week later, Tom was like... 'Guys, we've got to shoot it again. It wasn't good enough. We're gonna shoot it again'… And then everyone was back in the gym day and night.”
Glen worked alongside Cruise, who doesn't just do stunts, he does insane stunts. Powell said, “The funny part is when Tom raises the bar on anything, you have to meet him there.” Smiling, he added, “I wish my experience on 'Top Gun' was totally pukeless, but that would be a lie.”

Before we see Glen in “Maverick” we can see him in “Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.” “I get to be a camp counselor who screws up and lets a bunch of kids run around with dinosaurs.” He shared, “I've been a big 'Jurassic Park' fan my whole life… People actually make fun of me because when I work out, when I go on jogs and whatnot, I listen to movie soundtracks and 'Jurassic Park' is one of my favorite movie soundtracks to run to. So I always pretend I'm running from dinosaurs. It makes you run faster.”
“Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous” debuts September 18 on Netflix. “Maverick” is slated for release July 2, 2021.
