Joy Behar to Bid Adieu to ‘The View’
After more than 16 years on the show, “The View” co-host Joy Behar, 70, will be exiting this summer.
Deadline.com reports Behar's contract is up in August, and she told the producers she did not want to renew.
Behar explained to Deadline, “It seemed like the right time. You reach a point when you say to yourself, 'Do I want to keep doing this?' There are other things on my plate I want to do -- I've been writing a play, I've been neglecting my standup.”
The comedian also hosted her own show on HLN and would like to do a new interview show. She said, “I do like talk shows, I'm interested in talking to people.”
Behar will be sad to leave “The View.” She said, “I have a lot of friends there, and I will miss everyone I've worked with because we have a family there.”
She singled out co-host Barbara Walters, thanking the veteran journalist for putting her on the show. “It is a smart talk show because somebody of her stature is leading the conversation; Barbara was one of the main reasons I took that job."
