Did Calvin Harris Write a Breakup Song About Taylor Swift?
Calvin Harris has just released a brand-new song, “My Way,” but is he taking a page out of ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift's book?
Swift is known for writing about her past relationships, and many are speculating that Harris' song is about her. In the song, he sings, "I made my move and it was all about you / Now I feel so far removed / You were the one thing in my way.” Listen now!
In a recent interview, Harris opened up about the meaning of the lyrics, saying, "(The) song's kind of about breaking out of a situation that you thought was a good thing. Then, you're way more comfortable out of it.”
He added, "And it could be anything. It could be a job, or it could be a relationship. I had kind of the idea for the concept for a few years, but I didn't know how to work out how it sounded.”
In another interview with Elvis Duran, Harris also chatted about not using his music to tell his life story. He said, "I think for me personally, that's not really my vibe. I'm not an autobiographical singer I'm very vague with my messages. I don't think they're any less powerful but there are less words in them, and I don't think over the course of an album it would really make sense with me as an artist. I'm not like 'The Guy' or 'The Personality,' I'm like a dude in the studio so it's different. I don't think I need to do an album, I don't think people want to hear that.” Watch!
Back in June, Calvin and Swift split after a year of dating. He went on to slam her after it was revealed she was a co-writer on his song “This Is What You Came For.” At the time, he tweeted, “Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though… I figure if you're happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do. I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy [Perry] ETC but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it.”
