On Thursday, Ali revealed that she has been diagnosed with basal-cell carcinoma, which is "super common." She wrote on Instagram, "GET YOUR SKIN CHECKED. A couple weeks ago I found out I have skin cancer. When my dermatologist used the c-word, I just about fainted in his office."
Along with showing her cancerous mole on her stomach, Fedotowsky-Manno said, "Thankfully, the type of skin cancer I have is rarely fatal and really never fatal when you catch it early. It's called Basal cell carcinoma. Swipe to the third pic to see what my mole looked like before I got the biopsy done (so you know what to look for). It's on the left side of my body. The scar right above my belly button is from when I had cells/skin that may be cancerous removed six months ago."
After her diagnosis, Ali is planning to wear sunscreen from now on, writing, "Needless to say, i'm never exposing my stomach to sun without sunscreen again!"
While basal-cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer, Ali stressed how important it was to treat it early. "That is why going to a dermatologist and getting your skin checked every year is SO important (I now go every 3/6 months)," she urged. "The VERY first thing I did when I got diagnosed was text my family on a group text urging them all to get their skin checked. So I'm doing the same for all of you, my extended family, right here and right now."
Fedotowsky-Manno admitted, "I'm lucky it wasn't melanoma. And I'm lucky that I caught it early. Moving forward I plan on making it a priority of mine to use the best natural products on my skin and be rigorous about applying sunscreen and reminding all of you to do the same! I love you guys! Take care of yourselves! #skincancer #skincancerawareness #skincancerprevention #basalcellcarcinoma #basalcell #skincheck."
The 35-year-old also noted that she'll have minor surgery to get the mole removed later this month.
The news comes just weeks after Ali explained her decision to step away from the "Bachelor Happy Hour" podcast with Rachel Lindsay.
She told Us Weekly, "I basically did not realize the time commitment that it was going to take to do it. Some people are like, 'Oh, my gosh, did you and Rachel have a falling out?' Absolutely not. Like, Rachel and I are great. There's no problems with me and Rachel. Honestly, it was a time thing."
"I thought it was going to be, like, 'Oh! I get to sit and chat for an hour every week, this is going to be so cool and fun!' It just was not that. And it was, like, with my kids, I honestly found… Rachel had so much going on in her life, too, and with our two schedules, we were just never lining up. And it was becoming a lot," she pointed out. "One day, when I was running out the door to try and get there, literally my daughter was crying. She was like, 'Mommy, stay home with me. I miss seeing you.' And I just realized, between doing the podcast, and working with Home & Family, and my website, and my photo shoots, and everything else I'm doing, and when I saw Molly like that, I was like… 'Something's got to give.' And I was like, 'I need to put my family first, and as fun as this is, I can't take this on right now.'"
Ali is the mother of Molly, 2, and Riley, 20 months.
