Photos: Travis Barker Visits Burn Center
Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker took a detour on the band's tour to stop by the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Georgia, greet patients and thank the docs who saved his life.
"I'm here to say 'thank you' to everyone who took care of me after the accident," Travis said in a statement. "I was sort of unconscious the last time I was here, and I felt like I owed them a big 'thank you.'"
Barker was transported to the Burn Center after surviving a plane crash with fellow musician DJ AM in September 2008. The men were the only survivors, and both suffered severe burns as a result of the accident.
"This was a great opportunity for our staff and our patients to see someone who is truly a success story," said Dr. R. Fred Mullins helped treat Barker's wounds. "Travis was gracious with his time today, and his presence was a nice surprise and boost for everyone here."
During his visit, Travis greeted patients, signed autographs, and thanked the doctors. After his visit, Barker tweeted, "Just leaving the JMS burn center here in GA. Amazing talented people over there, angels is what I like to call them." He then added, "Wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for them. Glad I was able to go by and say thank u. I'll never forget them or what they did for me."
