Why Goldie Hawn Took a 15-Year Break from Hollywood
Hollywood legend Goldie Hawn is returning to the big screen for the first time in 15 years to star with Amy Schumer in “Snatched."
Why did she take such a long sabbatical from making movies? The 71-year-old recently told “Extra's” Mario Lopez, "I found an interest in something else, the well-being of children, and I literally created a program, produced it, I didn't write it, for children to be able to reduce stress. It's pretty seductive when you see children respond to some of the things you help them to do.”
In the May issue of Interview magazine, Hawn elaborated on her decision to step away for more than a decade, telling daughter Kate Hudson, "I believe that life is about doing. It's about changing. It's about transitioning. I can't imagine, as a human being, not being able to grow.”
"When I turned 50, I asked some of my girlfriends, all actresses of the same age, 'What are we going to do now?'" Hawn continued. "I wanted to go live somewhere for a while, learn archaeology, or take part in healing the world on some level. I wanted to dig deep and say, 'Who am I now? What do I have to offer? What do I have to learn?' I started learning about the brain, psychology. And after 9/11, I decided, 'I know what I'm going to do.'"
As for how Schumer lured Hawn back into films, Amy revealed to Mario, "I read the script and I was like, 'That's me and Goldie Hawn.' I just believed it would happen, we manifested it, a couple times I ran into her and I was like, 'I'm Amy,' and she's like, 'Okay, honey'… eventually, it became real and she was like, 'Okay, I will look at the script,' and then we fought to make it together.”
