Palisades Man Recalls Emotional Reunion with Lost Dog After Fire (Exclusive)
Days after they were separated amid the raging L.A. wildfires, Pacific Palisades resident Casey Colvin has been reunited with his rescue dog Oreo!
“Extra’s” Melvin Robert spoke with Casey, who opened up on what happened.
He shared, “The firefighter shows up at the command post with only one of my dogs in the fire truck.”
Colvin was not home when the fires broke out and was trying to return to his residence to grab his dogs.
“I saw fire columns taller than that parking garage, where they would just shoot up out of the ground because the gas lines were exploding,” Colvin went on. “When I saw a bunch of first responders, I kind of panicked because the fire was coming at us now and we had to evacuate. I kind of put my dog’s chance of survival around 20%.”
Lucky for Colvin, Oreo managed to escape the home, which eventually burned to the ground.
Oreo was later spotted in the neighborhood by one of Colvin’s friends.
Casey called his reunion with Oreo “the best day of my life,” adding, “I put a gold heart around his neck that says ‘Oreo’ on it. I put my phone number on it, and I promised him that I’m his guy for the rest of our days.”
One of Casey's friends has created a GoFundMe to help him in the wake of the fire.
The fundraiser description says, "My dear friend of 30+ years, Casey Colvin, has lost his home, his car and all his belongings in the California fire. His beloved Pomeranian, who is a rescue from an abusive home, got loose during the melee and through the power of social media and tireless help of good Samaritans, Casey was able to REUNITE with his beloved Oreo!"
It adds, "He’s going to need help with day to day expenses and temporary housing. He was reluctant to let me do this for him but I can promise he deserves any help that you choose to give. It all adds up so whatever you can chip in. Thank you friends."
