Kelly Clarkson Understands Why Adam Levine Left ‘The Voice’
Over the Memorial Day weekend, singer Kelly Clarkson made an appearance at the Indy 500, where she opened up about fellow "The Voice" coach Adam Levine's surprising announcement that he's leaving the show.
Kelly told “Extra” before the big race, “I found out the night before everybody else found out. I was texting him and everybody else.”
Levine's decision to exit the show after 16 seasons blindsided the show's fans, but she said she understands why he needs to move on. “It was kind of a shocking thing," she said. "But I kind of get it. He's been doing it for eight years — that's a long time. He's got a couple kids. Still has a career. Still touring. It's a very rigorous schedule fitting everything in.”
Kelly admitted it would take some time to get used to the fact that Adam is no longer on the show, saying, “It'll be weird going to work. 'Where's Adam?' But I totally get how busy it is trying to fit everything in plus having a family.”
Last week, Adam released a lengthy statement on his departure, writing on Instagram, “For me, it was time to move on. Your support has meant EVERYTHING. And Lastly, I'd like to thank my manager Jordan for convincing me to take that meeting. 😊. What an amazing ride. Thank you all so much."

View StoryAlong with showing love to the crew and his fellow judges, Levine noted, “It went on to be a life shaping experience that will be close to my heart forever. Thank you NBC for signing me up. I am truly honored to have been a part of something I'll always cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you to every single coach I ever sat in those chairs with. That is shared experience that is singularly ours. We have that for life. Thank you to everyone who supported this long strange and amazing left turn into a place I never thought I'd go."
Clarkson is a busy bee herself! She shared, “If I'm not doing a job y'all see me at, I'm organizing my whole house. I'm constantly having a project, so it doesn't bother me as much.”
Kelly, who has sung the national anthem at the 2012 Super Bowl, the 2017 World Series, and at last year's Indy 500, said of this year's gig, "I love singing the anthem. It's fun! I've been doing it since I was in high school.”
She posted on social media that she was thankful for the police escort she received this time.
The 37-year-old also said she was not nervous to be singing the anthem in front of 300,000 people, explaining, “If it's 300 people or 300,000, I want it to be awesome either way.”
