Julianne Moore Reflects on Oscar Win
Oscar winner Julianne Moore has had quite the awards season. The star, who took the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in “Still Alice,” sat down with “Extra's” AJ Calloway and reflected on her win… on her fifth nomination.
Moore said, “It was great, amazing, was really hard to believe. I'm so grateful for the opportunity.”
Moore shared the joy with her husband, Bart Freundlich, and said her children -- Caleb, 16 and Liv, 11 -- watched from home. “They were thrilled… they watched that night. My daughter went to sleep, then they woke her up right before my award.”
She continued, “They've been so supportive through this whole thing, but I think they're happy everything's back to normal now… at least I am.”
The actress is already back at work, shooting the film “Maggie's Plan.” Moore said, “We're shooting a movie here in New York City with Rebecca Miller, who wrote it and is directing. It stars Greta Gerwig, Ethan Hawke, Maya Rudolph and Bill Hader. It's a really fun, really great cast.”
Moore is also hard at work helping to launch the 2015 Women of Worth, explaining, “We celebrate women who have done extraordinary things in their lives for their communities.”
Kaitlin Roig-DeBellis is one of these women, a teacher who in 2012 saved her entire first-grade class from the Sandy Hook shooter by hiding her students in a bathroom until police arrived.
Roig-DeBellis is being honored for starting Classes 4 Classes, which teaches children the power of kindness. She explained, “Really instill in children that we are all connected in life and it is our responsibility to empathize with the needs of others, to be connected to other people.”
Moore is happy to help the cause. “I think anytime that you have an opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary work that women are doing to help others is a great thing to be a part of.”
