Night Angel! Kandi Burruss Talks Winning ‘The Masked Singer’ and ‘RHOA’ Drama
Kandi Burruss is officially the winner of “The Masked Singer”! The big reveal happened on last night's finale, and now “Extra's” Billy Bush is talking to the star of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” about her season as the “Night Angel.”
The singer, songwriter, and Grammy-winning producer shared that the show originally wanted her to appear on the first season. “They reached out to me and I was reconnecting with my group… When I watched it and I saw T-Pain win, I [thought], 'Oooh, if the opportunity comes back, I should do it.'”
Kandi opened up to Billy about how nervous she was when asked to compete on Season 3, saying, “I was shaking in my boots for the first six episodes, probably… I hadn't performed by myself in a long time.”
Sharing what it was like performing in the elaborate mask and costume, she said, “Hot! I had wings. I had a harness… and then the mask itself… So it was just super hot.”
Her friends and family were on to her during the competition, she revealed. “A lot of them were texting me and were like... 'Is that you? I know that's you.' And I just wouldn't respond.” Plus, she added, “there were so many fans that were guessing it was me.”
She did figure out who one of the other contenders was, confessing, “I heard his voice when he was practicing. He was doing Kris Kross' 'make you want to jump.'”
Burruss continued, “I was like, 'That is Bow Wow,'” she said, explaining, “Both of us started on So So Def records together… I never said anything to him.”
As for her other show, “RHOA,” Kandi said she doesn't know who is coming back. “They haven't let us know yet… We have one more reunion airing this Sunday,” she said. “Normally, after the reunions, that's when they send out letters.”
Kandi dished that what you see on TV between Kenya Moore and NeNe Leakes is not fake. “No, they don't like each other,” she said. “They really don't like each other.”
The singer shared that she and NeNe aren't in a good place, either, saying, “Well, lately NeNe and I haven't been on the best of pages … [but] I don't think we are as bad as NeNe and Kenya are,” adding that she doubts the two will ever work it out: “It doesn't look like it.”
