Debby Ryan Secretly Marries Josh Dun
Actress Debby Ryan, 27, and Twenty One Pilots rocker Josh Dun, 31, are married!
After a month of rumors, Ryan confirmed that they tied the knot on New Year's Eve.
Planning their wedding in just 28 days, she told Vogue, “We began to flirt with the idea of having a destination party celebrating the new decade, then decided in December to get married [in Austin] on New Year's Eve, and just keep dancing until after the ball dropped.”
For her special day, Debby wore a Elie Saab dress. She dished, “The day the collection dropped on Vogue — I saved it. For a long time, it was the only image of a wedding dress I had saved anywhere, and the only image in a folder titled 'wedding' on my phone.”
Josh wore a Paul Smith suit with Nick Cortez shoes. Immediately after trying on the green velvet suit, he “knew it was the one.”
The couple had everyone laughing with their personalized vows. Debby joked, “Because what is vowing to be together forever without us both acknowledging my annual trips to the emergency room and the significance of the 'Fast and the Furious' franchise in our relationship.”
Their dog Jim was the ring bearer, wearing a bow-tie and a ring pillow on his collar. After sprinting down the aisle, Jim witnessed the couple exchange rings and kiss.
Of their special night, Josh said, “The ceremony was the perfect balance. I felt like it was game night at our house, and this was the ultimate game, and boy did I win! I remember every detail from how it felt to be walking down the aisle, to the full body chills I got watching Debby walk down toward me.”
“The advice that I had been given by multiple people was to allow ourselves to soak it all in,” Josh continued. "My natural instinct is to be nervous and want the whole thing to be over with so we can just enjoy being married, but I decided to take the advice of my friends and enjoy every moment, even the ones where I felt out of my element and uncomfortable, as I always am whenever the attention is on me.”
As for how they decided on their wedding venue, Debby revealed, “We didn't want the ceremony to be in a ballroom. It became more and more important to us that the sanctity of the union exist in a reverent place. I think I saw every church in the greater Austin area and narrowed it down to two. Joshua chose the one we went with. The stained glass windows really got me.”
With the help of Alex Moreau, they were able to plan the wedding in less than a month. Debby noted, “I had a lot of ideas and Alex helped me navigate how to best use those 28 days — how big I could dream, how unconventional to skew, and was a touchstone of how realistic to stay.”
Debby revealed that a friend's passing changed her outlook on life. She said, “When he passed, it really rocked me and put a lot of things in perspective. It didn't feel important to wait anymore, to stop being busy, or for things to line up perfectly — intending to do things is not nearly as powerful as doing, as we aren't promised tomorrow.”
In April, many speculated that the couple was actually married since Josh is wearing a wedding band on his left hand in the band's music video “Level of Concern.”
Josh popped the question in December 2018. He told Vogue, “Before leaving for that tour, I knew I wanted to propose in New Zealand.”
Enlisting the help of a friend and Debby's brother Chase, Josh was able to pull off the “perfect” proposal. He shared, “It ended up perfect. So many things had to fall perfectly into place, and they all did at the very last second. I couldn't have imagined the proposal working out any better.”
Debby and Josh have been together since 2013.
