Simon Yam, a Hong Kong actor with a huge following who has appeared in a number of Hollywood productions, was stabbed onstage at an event Saturday in China.
Yam, 64, was attending a presentation in Zhongshan, Guangdong province, celebrating the opening of Beijing Easyhome, a building-materials company. As seen in video, a young man rushed onto the stage and lunged at Yam, stabbing him in the abdomen before slashing his arm. Security guards restrained the attacker after a slight delay.
Variety reports Yam remained conscious throughout the attack.
His manager, Lester Mo Gee-man of Emperor Entertainment, said in a statement, "The knife wound to his abdominal area caused minor damage to his internal organs which has been repaired. The injuries to his right hand have also been treated. He is resting and in a stable condition."
There is no word on when Yam will be released from medical care.
Yam has an illustrious 40-year career across Asia in film and on TV. In the West, he is known for playing Chen Lo in "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" (2003).
