Ryan Seacrest Returns as ‘American Idol’ Host
Ryan Seacrest is coming back as the host of “American Idol.”
Seacrest made the announcement on “Live with Kelly and Ryan.” Of his "15-year relationship" with the show, which initially ended last year, Ryan said, "The show was going, we thought, well and then all of a sudden we broke up. And I thought, 'Gosh, it would be great to get back together at some point.'”
Kelly Ripa praised his return, saying, "You make that show. You are the heart and soul, and people don't — I really don't believe— understand how difficult it is to be there, be supportive, keep the show moving at the clip that it moves and then back away when you need to back away… and step in when it's time to step in, and because you make it look so easy, nobody really understands how difficult it is, and only you can do it.” Watch!
In a statement, Ryan said, "It's genuinely hard to put into words what 'American Idol' means to me. I'm so grateful for the show and all the career and life opportunities it's allowed me to experience. It's been an incredible journey from day one. To be asked to return this year, at my new home at Disney|ABC, is an honor, if not a bit surreal. I believe ABC is the perfect home for 'Idol,' and I've every confidence the show's legions of fans will love it — especially 'Idol's' best traditions of showcasing heartwarming stories, remarkable talent discovery, and, best of all, making dreams come true.”
Rumors of Ryan's return to the show have been swirling for months before he made it official.
