Kristen Stewart Talks Robert Pattinson, and Her Sexuality
She used to be one of the most guarded stars in Hollywood, but these days Kristen Stewart is happy to talk about her personal life.
In a new interview with The London Sunday Times, she explains why she was so private about her early relationships, but isn't anymore.
“I didn't talk about my first relationships that went public because I wanted things that are mine to be mine,” said Kristen, who famously dated her “Twilight” co-star Robert Pattinson. "I hated it that details of my life were being turned into a commodity and peddled around the world.”
Kristen confirmed in July she had an on-again/off-again girlfriend, and told the London Sunday Times she wanted to go public with her sexuality to help others.
“Considering I had so many eyes on me, I suddenly realized [my private life] affects a greater number of people than just me,” she said. “It was an opportunity to surrender a bit of what was mine, to make even one other person feel good about themselves.”
She says that sharing her private life became important.
“If it didn't seem like a relevant topic, like something that needed help, I would have kept my life private forever,” she said. “When I was dating Rob, the public was the enemy — and that is no way to live. It wasn't this grand statement, 'I was so confused! Now I've realized who I am!' I have not been struggling.”
She added that she came out because “It just seemed important, and topical.”
Around the same time that the interview was published, Kristen decided to shave her head and dye her hair platinum blonde. She debuted her new look on Tuesday night during a premiere of her new film "Personal Shopper" in Los Angeles.
