Eva Mendes’ Response to Ryan Gosling’s Golden Globes Acceptance Speech
One day after Ryan Gosling won Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes, his partner Eva Mendes made a subtle comment about his acceptance speech.
During his speech, Gosling put the spotlight on Mendes, who is the mother of his daughters, Esmeralda and Amada. He told the celebrity-packed crowd, "I just would like to try and thank one person properly and say that while I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I've ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer. If she hadn't have taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today. So, sweetheart, thank you. To my daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, I love you and if I may, I'd like to dedicate this to the memory of her brother, Juan Carlos Mendez.”
Mendes took to Instagram Monday to praise Janelle Monáe's fashion choice at the Golden Globes, but seemed to acknowledge Ryan's speech in the process. She said about Monáe's red-carpet look, "Obviously this wasn't my favorite moment of the night....But it was definitely my favorite style moment of the night. The stunning and talented @janellemonae is killing me with this look. So so so beautiful ❤ #goldenglobes.”
After praising Eva at the Globes, Gosling told “Extra's” Jerry Penacoli backstage about his family, "I was just grateful to have an opportunity to thank them publicly. Obviously, I thank them in my life, but it's wonderful to have an opportunity to really speak to how much they mean to me and how responsible they are for a lot of things I am able to do.”
Eva and Ryan have always kept details of their relationship under the radar. They were able to keep the birth of their daughter a secret for two weeks last year.
