José Fernández’s Pregnant GF Attends His Funeral

On Wednesday, Miami Marlins pitcher José Fernández's close loved ones, including pregnant girlfriend Maria Arias, said their final good-byes to him at a funeral service at St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Miami.

Arias was joined by his teammates, who were seen surrounding the hearse that carried Fernández's body. The hearse drove through Marlins Park, where fans chanted his name.

Just a week before he died in a boating accident, the 24-year-old posted a pic of Maria cradling her baby bump on Instagram. He gushed in the caption, "I'm so glad you came into my life. I'm ready for where this journey is gonna take us together. #familyfirst.”

The pair, who met through her sister, was expecting a baby girl. She is scheduled to arrive in February.

The day before the memorial service, Fernández's ex-fiancée Carla Mendoza also paid tribute to him on Instagram. She wrote, “Nothing will make this time easy for anyone and if you do one thing today, let it be that you tell those close to you how much you love them. Not one day will pass by that I don't think about him or love him. Please honor Joses memory by respecting his daughter and her mother as I'm sure this is all too painful for her as well."
