Seth MacFarlane Takes a Shot at 'Duck Dynasty,' Allison Janney and James Corden Hook-Up on Stage at Critics' Choice TV Awards
Seth MacFarlane's penchant for playfully offending everyone was noted in the warm intro given him by his friend Charlize Theron at Sunday night's Critics' Choice Television Awards... and he wasted no time in living up to his reputation!
Receiving the Louis XIII Genius Award from the esteemed critics' organization, MacFarlane delivered several memorable zingers:
Of A&E, on which the show was aired, he noted that it was thrilling to be on a broadcast with "close to a billion people... watching something else."
He singled out "Duck Dynasty," an A&E show that's no stranger to controversy, saying, "Let's not forget I'm being declared a genius on a network that airs 'Duck Dynasty,' a show whose cast members believe hurricanes are created by gay marriage. I wish I was joking."
He zapped critics by pointing out that he typically gets mixed reviews at best, yet now they're calling him a genius, comparing them to an "abusive dad" who gives his kid $5 on Easter while apologizing for the cigarette burns.
Seth couldn't resist also poking fun at himself, saying that being declared a genius in Hollywood was like being called thin at Disneyland. He copped to being heavily inspired by "The Simpsons," saying, "I want to thank the people at FOX, who years ago took a chance on a quirky little animated show about a bumbling dad and his family... which I saw and then created 'Family Guy.'"
Lesson learned: Don't give Seth MacFarlane an award and expect him to play nice!
