‘19 Kids’ and Scandal: Duggar Family Spoofed by Comedians and Commentators
The fate of their hit show “19 Kids and Counting” may be up in the air, but the Duggars are still stars of television, after TV hosts Jon Stewart and Larry Wilmore mocked the wholesome family on late-night, while Jim Bob and Michelle were skewered in a Funny or Die sketch uploaded on Wednesday.
Before “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart handed things off to his colleague on Tuesday night, he asked “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore” host how he spent his vacation last week, Wilmore responded said he spent it watching his favorite TV show, "19 Kids and Counting,” adding, "I love those Duggars, man!"
Stewart tried to interrupt Wilmore, saying he had "some bad news," but Wilmore continued, "You know, I hope nothing happens that makes me recontextualize their closeness and isolation as something dangerous.”
"You know what?" Stewart responded, biting his lip. "Just enjoy your favorite show."
In the Funny or Die skit, the two actors playing the “19 Kids and Counting” parents respond to allegations against their oldest son Josh by the fake Michelle saying, "We did the right thing and immediately waited three years before we called the authorities."
The “Funny or Die” actors then scolded InTouch for “Scooby Doo-ing” around, saying, “It's been terrible for us, and Josh, but those are the only three people affected by these mistakes.” They concluded by saying they are going to deal with this the only way they know how, “by getting pregnant again.”
