'DWTS' Star Derek Hough Describes 'Fluke Accident' That Landed Him in E.R.
“Dancing with the Stars” pro Derek Hough opened up to fans on Instagram on Wednesday, following the accident that sent him to the E.R.
Hough, who was caught on camera on Wednesday using a single crutch in L.A., posted a photo of his injured feet, along with the note, “Performing 10 shows a week at Radio City while rehearsing with Nastia for DWTS, I've never felt more healthy, strong and fit. But then a fluke accident happened that involved a light and some stairs. Can't believe it, wish I had a cooler story to tell.”
He continued, “All that dancing , flipping , jumping and the thing that stops me in my tracks is something as simple as a light and some stairs . I'm doing everything I possibly can to have a quick recovery and I'm determined to come back stronger than ever. I appreciate all the love and support, you guys are the best. And thank you to Mark, BC Jean and Corky Ballas for staying with me at the hospital until 2am. Love you.”
Derek called the experience “new territory,” explaining, “I'm usually able to work through injury but this one has literally floored me. But like I said before I'm determined to come back all guns blazing ... soon!!! #setbackisasetupforacomeback”

A source told E! News that the pro dancer suffered a broken toe, severely sprained ankle and possible ligament damage during a rehearsal for the “DWTS” 10th anniversary reunion on Monday.
Hough ended up missing the special on Tuesday due to the injury, and has bowed out of his lead role in the Rockettes' “New York Spring Spectacular” as well.
A source told Us Weekly that they are “not sure if he can dance next Monday” with partner Nastia Liukin on “DWTS." For now, Sasha Farber is practicing with Nastia as the show waits to hear if Derek can return.
Friend and co-star Mark Ballas was with Derek at the hospital. He told “Extra, “It was horrible, but he's tough.”
Ballas added that they are still waiting on the results of the MRI, adding, “So we're just sending him positive healing vibes. Hopefully the MRI brings us good news…”
For the Record: A previous version of this post stated that Derek's "DWTS" sub was unknown, it has since been updated to include his possible replacement Sasha Farber.
